Reports Suggest David Kampf Is Stepping Away From Maple Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf has reportedly taken a break from the Toronto Marlies while considering his future with the organization. According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Kampf’s frustration over not playing in the NHL may have led to this decision.
Friedman discussed the situation on both “Saturday Headlines” and the “32 Thoughts” podcast, indicating that Kampf’s time away from the club could end with a mutual contract termination.
“I don’t know exactly what was said… but Kampf did leave players with the Marlies with the impression that he was going to terminate his contract.”
Friedman added that David Kampf did not join the Marlies for their game in Chicago and that, while there was a chance he could play the following day, it seemed improbable.
“David Kampf has taken a couple of days to think about his future. He’s not playing with the Maple Leafs right now; he’s caught in a roster and salary cap crunch, and he got a little bit frustrated,” Friedman noted.
