In Sydney FC's 2-2 draw with Melbourne City, 14-year-old Willa Pearson became the youngest-ever player in Ninja A-League history, debuting at just 14 years and 312 days. The season opener of 2025–26 marked a milestone as Pearson started in defense against the reigning Premiers.
Pearson surpassed the previous record held by Ischia Brooking from Western Sydney Wanderers, who debuted in 2023 at 14 years and 347 days. The match at Leichhardt Oval saw Pearson on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes.
“Thank you to everybody who believed in me, who gave me this opportunity,” Pearson told Network 10.
Her calm and composed post-match comments reflected maturity far beyond her years, making her debut not only historic but inspiring for young athletes across the country.
