RSL Victoria invites the community to buy a red poppy ahead of Remembrance Day. The day, on Monday 11 November 2024, marks the anniversary of the Armistice that ended conflict with Germany in World War I in 1918.
Every year at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, millions pause to remember. Local services will be held in Ararat, Willaura, and Lake Bolac, with ceremonies beginning at 11am in each community.
“The poppy is known as the Flower of Remembrance, as they were among the first to bloom on the battlefields of northern France and Belgium after the war.”
Australia adopted the poppy in 1921 as a lasting emblem to honour the fallen and support the living.
Remembrance Day poppies and badges are available at the above local stores, with all proceeds supporting veterans and their families.
This article encourages Australians to wear a red poppy and attend local services on Remembrance Day to honour those who served and sacrificed in times of war.
