9News Melbourne is preparing to say goodbye to one of its most iconic figures this month. Livinia Nixon, the city’s cherished weather presenter, will depart on November 18 after more than two decades with the network.
Livinia Nixon joined 9News Melbourne in 1997 and has been the staple weather presenter since 2004. The 50-year-old announced her decision to step down on Friday, explaining that she wants to dedicate more time to her family as her sons enter their senior school years.
“After 20 years presenting weather on 9News, I've decided to step back from this role. My sons will both be in high school and I want to be there to support them. It's been a privilege to be welcomed into viewers' homes for so long, but this is the right time for my family.”
Livinia described how the weather presenting role has profoundly influenced her life and career, expressing gratitude for the opportunity it provided.
“Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me. When I discussed it with our boys, they said, 'We're pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.'”
Although Livinia is leaving her weekday weather presenting duties, she will remain with the Nine Network in other capacities.
Her departure marks the end of an era for 9News Melbourne, where she has been a familiar and trusted presence in many households.
