Political Turmoil Inside Australia’s Liberal Party

Scott Buchholz, the Opposition's spokesperson on skills and training, urged party members not to interpret Sussan Ley’s “feminine politeness” as weakness. He contrasted her leadership approach with that of former leader Peter Dutton, calling the latter’s style “authoritarian.”

“Don’t mistake her feminine politeness for weakness. We have come from a previous leadership style of authoritarian [under Dutton] to now a consultative one. Some people misread that, but these are simply different leadership styles.”

The Queensland MP said that although he had not heard Sarah Henderson’s latest remarks about Ley, they seemed like “career-limiting comments.” He added that after the party’s defeat in May, members were still recovering and needed time to move forward.

Reporter Alexander Darling from Melbourne signed off by greeting readers: “A belated good afternoon to you all, it’s been a busy hour!”
