The Sacramento Kings have waived Isaac Jones to clear a roster spot for Precious Achiuwa.
At 4:52 pm, the Kings officially signed Achiuwa and waived Jones, as announced in a team press release.
As reported by Shams Charania of ESPN at 9:17 am, Sacramento agreed to a one-year, minimum-salary contract with free agent forward/center Precious Achiuwa. To accommodate Achiuwa, the Kings planned to waive second-year forward Isaac Jones.
At 26 years old, Achiuwa started his NBA career with the Miami Heat as a first-round pick. He was traded to the Toronto Raptors in the 2021 offseason as part of the Kyle Lowry sign-and-trade deal, spending over two seasons there before moving to the New York Knicks in December 2023 along with OG Anunoby.
Achiuwa played a season and a half in New York, then signed a non-guaranteed contract with Miami this fall but was cut from their regular season roster due to luxury tax concerns.
"The Kings have been shorthanded in the frontcourt after losing Keegan Murray to a thumb injury last month."
Achiuwa’s addition provides the Kings with needed frontcourt depth amid ongoing injuries.
Author's summary: The Sacramento Kings bolstered their frontcourt by signing Precious Achiuwa on a one-year deal and waiving Isaac Jones, addressing depth issues caused by Keegan Murray's injury.
