Jim Belushi recently shared his favorite memory from his early Hollywood days, focusing on the success of his late brother, John Belushi, in one of his iconic roles.

John Belushi’s Breakthrough and The Blues Brothers Creation

John was one of the standout comedians of the original 1975 Saturday Night Live cast. Along with fellow cast member Dan Aykroyd, he developed The Blues Brothers, which grew into a full blues and soul music act. The duo first appeared as musical guests on SNL in April 1978, eventually forming a complete band.

Early Success and Performing with Steve Martin

By September 1978, The Blues Brothers were opening for Steve Martin at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. Jim, reflecting on this experience, said:

“I loved that moment, to see my brother just hit the top of his chart.”

He fondly recalled attending those shows and witnessing John’s magnificent performances firsthand.

John Belushi’s Tragic End and Jim’s Role Transition

John Belushi passed away on March 5, 1982, from a suspected drug overdose. Following his brother's death, Jim stepped into the role of Zee Blues, partnering with Aykroyd’s character, Elwood, at Aykroyd’s request.
