Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett of Texas is weighing a run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by John Cornyn, according to sources speaking to FOX 4 News in Dallas.
Recent statewide polls indicate Crockett leads the Democratic primary field, ahead of former U.S. Representative James Talarico and others. On the Republican side, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton holds a narrow edge over incumbent Senator John Cornyn for the nomination.
In mid-October, Crockett discussed her potential candidacy during a FOX News interview, expressing that she would finalize her decision after court rulings on new congressional maps and further polling data become available. She emphasized her uncertainty by saying she is still awaiting a final ruling on the redrawn Texas Congressional District boundaries.
"I’m waiting on the courts' decision about the new maps to know how it will impact my district and my constituents," Crockett said.
The recent remapping aims to create five additional Republican House seats, which could alter Crockett’s current district if upheld by the court.
"Recent polling shows Crockett with a potential early lead in the crowded Democratic primary field," report notes.
