Jasmine Crockett's chances of flipping GOP Senate seat in Texas—Polls

Jasmine Crockett's Chances of Flipping GOP Senate Seat in Texas

Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, said she is seriously considering a Senate run in the Lone Star State. Early polls indicate she could emerge as a leading candidate in the Democratic primary.

Newsweek reached out to Crockett’s campaign and congressional office for comment via email.

Democrats face significant challenges in next year’s Senate elections and are looking to conservative states like Texas to secure a majority. Republicans currently control the Senate with a 53–47 margin. Democratic strategists see GOP-held seats in Maine—where former Vice President Kamala Harris led by seven points—and North Carolina—where President Donald Trump won by about three points—as their best opportunities to flip seats.

However, with few competitive races elsewhere, Democrats will need to contest in deeper red states such as Texas to have a realistic path to reclaiming control of the chamber.

Crockett’s possible entry into the race could reshape the Democratic primary, which already includes several well-known party figures. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022, Crockett rose to prominence for her sharp criticism of President Donald Trump and other Republican leaders.

Kamala Harris described her as “authentic” when discussing future Democratic leadership.

Summary

Jasmine Crockett is weighing a Senate bid in Texas, a move that could energize Democrats as they aim to regain Senate control amid limited opportunities in other states.
