Delta Air Lines announced that it is following a directive issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation to reduce flight activity at 40 major U.S. airports starting Friday, November 7.
The airline stated that these changes are a direct response to staffing shortages within air traffic control caused by the ongoing government shutdown.
“We will provide customers with as much advance notice as possible regarding any updates to their flights and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience these necessary adjustments may cause.”
According to Delta, the flight reductions aim to uphold safety standards throughout the national airspace system while the government works to resolve the staffing issue.
