Jennifer Lawrence confirmed that the film What Happens At Night, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is set to begin filming in 2026. This movie marks the 27th feature film of Scorsese's career.
The story follows an American couple who travel to a snowy European city planning to adopt a baby, but encounter a series of strange events. It is based on Peter Cameron’s acclaimed 2020 novel of the same name.
The book’s description states the couple meets characters “ranging from an ancient, flamboyant chanteuse to a debauched businessman to an enigmatic faith healer,” and adds, “Nothing is as it seems in this baffling, frozen world, and the more the couple struggles to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about their marriage, themselves, and life itself.”
Besides Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, no other cast members have been announced. Lawrence shared with IndieWire that production is tentatively planned for January or February 2026.
“Hopefully, a January/February situation. But one never knows with these things. I’ll believe it when I’m there. Leo and I worked together on Don’t Look Up.”
Further casting and production details remain under wraps.
Lawrence appears optimistic but cautiously realistic about the start of filming, indicating that the project might still face scheduling uncertainties.
