Wales boss Tandy expects Rees-Zammit to make bench impact against the Pumas

London (AFP) – Steve Tandy begins his first match as Wales coach confident that recalling Louis Rees-Zammit as a substitute, rather than starting him, is the right decision for Sunday’s clash against Argentina in Cardiff.

Rees-Zammit has been recovering from a toe injury sustained in his third game for Bristol in the English Premiership. The winger previously spent 18 months pursuing a career in American football with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars, though he never made a senior NFL appearance.

The 24-year-old last represented Wales during the 2023 Rugby World Cup and is now set to return from the bench in the Autumn Nations Series opener at the Principality Stadium.

“There’s always a temptation to start someone like Zammo, but we’ve got to do what’s right by him and the group,” said Tandy.
“Zammo’s probably played two games in total since he’s come back and then he’s had an injury. It’s his first full training week, which has been awesome.”

Tandy also highlighted the strong form of fellow wings Tommy Rogers and Josh Adams, noting that both have trained well and are match fit.

Author’s Summary

Tandy believes easing Rees-Zammit back through a substitute role is the best move as he regains fitness, supported by the solid preparation of other fit wingers.
