Far-right activist Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, refused to give police his phone's Pin to protect "journalistic material", Westminster Magistrates' Court heard.
Robinson, 42, was stopped by officers at the Channel Tunnel in Folkestone while driving a silver Bentley SUV to Benidorm, a Spanish tourist hotspot.
The court was told that Robinson claimed the phone held information about "vulnerable girls", which he wanted to keep private.
Robinson did not want police to see his "journalist material", his trial heard.
