Fred. Olsen’s Borealis Drydock Progressing at Damen

The cruise ship Borealis from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines continues its scheduled upgrades at the Damen Shiprepair yard in Rotterdam. The 1997-built vessel arrived in late October for extensive technical maintenance and modernization of its public spaces.

“Our teams have been hard at work carrying out a wide range of upgrades and maintenance projects,” Fred. Olsen stated in a social media update.

Safety and Interior Upgrades

Among notable improvements are the installation of new lifeboat winches enhancing the ship’s safety systems. Owner Suites received general upkeep, while the Fitness Center was fitted with new window frames to give a brighter, refreshed look.

Wellness and Dining Enhancements

The Atlantis Spa is seeing new tiling in its changing rooms and a modern jacuzzi added to its Thermal Suite. The Colours & Tastes restaurant gains updated lighting and wallpaper for a renewed atmosphere. A new open-air dining space, “Fresco,” is being built on the aft pool deck, along with a pediluvio feature.

Upcoming Return to Service

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines noted additional behind-the-scenes work will be revealed soon. Once drydock operations conclude, the Borealis will resume service on November 7, 2025, from Portsmouth, embarking on a five-night “Mystery Cruise” whose destinations will remain undisclosed until guests are aboard.
