Wisconsin’s 2025 Nine-Day Gun Deer Season Opens November 22

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds hunters that the 2025 gun deer season begins on Saturday, November 22, and ends on Sunday, November 30.

Similar to last year, the season takes place later in November. This shift may result in fewer deer being active compared to years with earlier start dates. However, factors like colder temperatures and snow cover could improve hunting conditions.

As of November 30, 2025, year-to-date sales for gun, bow, crossbow, sports, and patron licenses reached 463,983. Out of these, 137,394 licenses grant gun hunting privileges only.

Changes to Deer Management Units for 2025

Hunters should note updates to some Deer Management Units (DMUs) this season. In the Northern Forest Management Zones, DMUs have been reorganized into habitat-based units rather than county-based units.

Hunters are encouraged to review the updated DMU map to confirm where they will be hunting. The season structure by county and DMU is also available for reference.

"All harvested deer must be registered electronically by 5 p.m. the day after the deer is recovered."
