The President of the United University Professions' (UUP) Upstate Medical University Chapter has named the two employees detained by Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) during their immigration hearings in late October.
Both men are employed in Environmental Services at Upstate Medical University.
The United University Professions reported that the men are currently held at the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility in Batavia. Both had fled Cuba seeking asylum in the United States, were recently married, and were nearing the completion of the immigration process to remain permanently in the U.S. when they were detained.
