Teachers across Iceland, from Reykjavik to the most remote areas, will receive access to Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant. This national initiative, a pioneering effort worldwide, aims to investigate AI's impact on education systems.
The program offers not only AI tools but also specialized training, dedicated support, and ongoing mentorship to educators throughout Iceland.
“This initiative exemplifies how governments can harness AI to enhance public services while preserving their core values. For too long, teachers have been weighed down by paperwork and administrative tasks — hidden burdens that pull them away from what they do best: teaching,” said Anthropic’s Head of Public Sector, Thiyagu Ramasamy.
“It is developing at a tremendous pace, and it is important to harness its power while at the same time preventing harm. It will affect education just like other fields,” stated Guðmundur Ingi Kristinsson, Minister of Education and Children.
Hundreds of teachers will benefit from both the advanced AI technology and the structured guidance on integrating AI into their daily classrooms, aiming to make education more efficient and focused on teaching.
Summary: Iceland’s collaboration with Anthropic introduces Claude AI to teachers nationwide, combining technology and training to transform education while supporting educators in reducing administrative burdens.
