Every November, the Recording Academy announces its Grammy nominations. Each year, we check the lists to see if artists we follow in the Alternative and Rock genres made the cut. Often, these artists appear lower in the categories, with only occasional breakthroughs into major categories.

New Best Album Cover Category
This year marks the introduction of the Best Album Cover category. Wet Leg’s controversial artwork for Moisturizer was nominated, alongside covers from Djo and Perfume Genius.
Wet Leg’s Multiple Nominations
- Best Alternative Music Performance for “Mangetout” (competing with Bon Iver, The Cure, Hayley Williams, and Turnstile)
- Best Alternative Music Album, facing the same nominees except Turnstile is replaced by Tyler, the Creator
Tyler, the Creator also received several rap category nominations and is up for Album of the Year with a different album.
Rock Category Highlights
Turnstile fans will be pleased to know they are nominated for Best Rock Album alongside HAIM and Deftones.
