Every November, the Recording Academy announces its Grammy nominations. Each year, we check the lists to see if artists we follow in the Alternative and Rock genres made the cut. Often, these artists appear lower in the categories, with only occasional breakthroughs into major categories.
This year marks the introduction of the Best Album Cover category. Wet Leg’s controversial artwork for Moisturizer was nominated, alongside covers from Djo and Perfume Genius.
Tyler, the Creator also received several rap category nominations and is up for Album of the Year with a different album.
Turnstile fans will be pleased to know they are nominated for Best Rock Album alongside HAIM and Deftones.
“The Oscars have the Independent Spirit Awards. It’s too bad there isn’t an indie rock version of the Grammys that gets the same amount of attention as the Spirit Awards.”
Author's summary: The latest Grammy nominations feature strong showings from alternative and rock artists, with Wet Leg leading in multiple categories and a new award recognizing album cover art.
