Context of the Story
The second part of the movie musical, based on the latter half of the Broadway show, follows Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo) as she delivers the powerful song “Defying Gravity.” This moment comes after she and her best friend Glinda (Ariana Grande) discover that the Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) is a fraud.
New Additions by Director Jon M. Chu
Director Jon M. Chu shared that the story will be expanded with original songs. Erivo will perform “No Place Like Home,” while Grande will sing “The Girl in the Bubble.”
“Both witches are trying to find their way home. Both of these songs are about how to do that, and it’s questions that I’ve always wanted to hear from them in the stage show, but never got to. We get to take our time and explore those questions.”
