The memorial round for young cricketer Ben Austin has been postponed by a weekend due to wet weather, temporarily halting tributes for the 17-year-old.
Ben Austin tragically died after being struck by a cricket ball in a freak accident while warming up in the nets before a T20 game last week. The Ferntree Gully and District Cricket Association had planned a minute’s silence before each match to honor him.
However, the memorial activities have been rescheduled due to weather conditions.
“Unfortunately today’s play has been abandoned – we will be doing our planned memorials tributes for Ben Austin next week, before each of the rescheduled one day games,”
the Ferntree Gully Cricket Club stated on Facebook.
Ben Austin’s tragic death prompted a statewide cricket tribute, delayed by weather, with heartfelt remembrance from his club and community.
