Gavin & Stacey Star Alison Steadman Shares Major Health Update After Fall

Acting icon Alison Steadman has spoken about her recovery following a serious accident in Dubai earlier this year. The 79-year-old, known for her role in Gavin & Stacey, suffered a broken metatarsal in her foot and a fractured hand after tripping on an uneven walkway at a restaurant.

The incident, which occurred during a January poetry event, left her temporarily wheelchair-bound and required surgery. Speaking at the Comedy Women In Print Prize at London’s Groucho Club, Steadman shared encouraging news about her progress.

“That fall was just terrible, shocking — it was an awful time. I’ve got to have another operation on my foot soon, to take the metal screws out of it. But I've finally just stopped using a stick, which is great — I am walking again, hurrah!”

Despite her injuries, Steadman’s career remains active. Her acclaimed BBC sitcom Here We Go, which follows the lively Jessop family and features Steadman as matriarch Sue, is set to return with a holiday special and a new season next year.

“I just love it, being part of that family. I love working with the likes of Jim Howick and Katherine Parkinson. It's a great cast and the writing is just superb.”
