The Vancouver Canucks are back in action tonight, hosting the Columbus Blue Jackets. However, Thatcher Demko will not be playing.
Yesterday brought uncertainty regarding Demko’s availability. The Canucks’ communication was confusing, causing speculation. Yet, the core story is straightforward: Demko was told over the summer to request days off if needed, especially given this season’s hectic NHL schedule.
Demko has not played since last Monday. He participated in Wednesday’s morning skate and backed up that night but took a day off Thursday with the rest of the team. On Saturday, head coach Adam Foote confirmed Demko would not play that day.
Demko’s status for Sunday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche remains uncertain.
