Lucy Liu Debuts Her Shortest Haircut in Years

Lucy Liu introduces a fresh look with a lob haircut, marking a new era coinciding with her lead role in the drama Rosemead. The actress sports a short, side-parted style just above her collarbone, showcased in the film's trailer.

About Rosemead

Rosemead premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June and will be released in theaters on December 5. The story centers on Irene (Liu) and her son Joe (Lawrence Shou) as they navigate life after his schizophrenia diagnosis.

The film adapts a 2017 Los Angeles Times article by Frank Shyong titled

“A dying mother's plan: Buy a gun. Kill her son.”

Lucy Liu's Role and Career Shift

This role represents a shift for Liu, moving away from her usual light-hearted, action-hero parts seen in Ally McBeal, Watching the Detectives, and Why Women Kill.

“As there was not a lot that was known about this family, the script had to be pieced together,” Liu told Variety. “In some ways, it’s a little bit of a thriller, because people know the final act and some of the details, and then the rest had to be kind of filled in, in order to understand the dynamic between Irene and her son.”

At the Tribeca premiere, Liu discussed her passion for this project and similar stories in an interview with Parade.

Author's summary: Lucy Liu embraces a transformative role and hairstyle in Rosemead, shedding her action-hero image to explore a gripping, personal family drama.
