Toyota has officially unveiled the next-generation Hilux, marking one of the most awaited automotive launches of the year. The presentation took place in Thailand, a crucial production and launch market for Toyota’s pickup lineup.
This new model marks the ninth generation of the Hilux and comes a full decade after the current version debuted. The Hilux continues to be South Africa’s best-selling vehicle and is produced locally at Toyota’s Prospecton facility in Durban. A worldwide release is planned for 2026, offering a wide variety of configurations.
Among the most significant updates is the arrival of a battery electric vehicle (BEV) version, which will be sold alongside refreshed internal combustion engine (ICE) options. Availability and engine types will vary by market, with Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) expected to confirm specific details for local buyers.
The 2026 Hilux features a refreshed exterior that keeps its recognizable boxy silhouette, a defining element of its design language. For ICE models, the standout change is the new honeycomb grille inspired by the updated Corolla Cross.
“Slim LED headlights and LED daytime running lights run across the upper front section, with a black horizontal bar that replaces the traditional Toyota badge with bold Toyota lettering.”
This next-generation Toyota Hilux introduces modern design features and electrified powertrains, ensuring the legendary pickup remains contemporary while staying true to its heritage.
