Inspired by a public declaration of love, the sixth-ranked Ole Miss Rebels dominated The Citadel with a 49-0 win. Fall is synonymous with college football nationwide, but for one Ole Miss couple, the season marked a major personal milestone in front of thousands of fans and Rebels coach Lane Kiffin.
Former Ole Miss pole vaulter Drew O’Connor appeared on the field during a timeout in the third quarter of the Rebels' game against The Citadel. Although it looked like he was there to kick a field goal as part of a promotion, O’Connor surprised everyone by getting down on one knee and proposing to his girlfriend, Madison Barnette, who was holding the ball for the kick.
Barnette accepted the proposal and put on her ring, delighting the Ole Miss fans in attendance.
Lane Kiffin, in his sixth year as Ole Miss coach, witnessed the moment from the Rebels’ sideline. He happily joined the couple's celebration, posing for photos and pointing at them in acknowledgment of their joy.
"Ole Miss does not keep official statistics on the amount of on-field proposals during games."
This memorable engagement added a heartwarming highlight to the Rebels' commanding victory and college football atmosphere.
Summary: Lane Kiffin warmly celebrated an on-field marriage proposal during an Ole Miss game, creating a memorable moment alongside the team's decisive win.
