A woman from Havant, Juliette Spencer-Besant, 47, was left in “disbelief” after winning £250,000 in the People's Postcode Lottery. She had intended to cancel her direct debit but forgot amid her busy schedule.
Juliette’s postcode, PO9 2LD, was drawn as the weekly Millionaire Street prize. The area covers a nine-storey block of flats in Leigh Park, with three ticket holders each receiving a quarter of a million pounds.
Juliette described the moment when the Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judie McCourt, came to her door with the surprise cheque:
“There was disbelief when I saw the cheque and then a wave of emotion came over me. But I managed to pull it together.”
She admitted that her busy life and a recent promotion at work contributed to her forgetting to cancel the direct debit on time:
“I was going to cancel a couple of months back, but I’m really bad at personal stuff... I’ve been working for that for the last two months and never got round to it.”
Despite cancelling other subscriptions, she missed stopping the lottery payment, which she now considers “probably the luckiest thing that’s ever happened” to her.
Juliette plans to invest her winnings wisely but intends to treat herself first. She also said she will continue playing the lottery.
