The FTSE 100 recouped some of Friday's losses, closing up 15.40 points at 9,442.87, a 0.2% increase.
Gold miners Fresnillo and Endeavour Mining saw significant gains, leaping 9.1% and 11% respectively.
The FTSE 250 ended 262.48 points higher at 22,064.32, a 1.2% increase, while the AIM All-Share rose 6.14 points to 792.47, a 0.8% increase.
In European equities, the CAC 40 in Paris closed up 0.2%, and the DAX 40 in Frankfurt ended up 0.6%.
