The South Lake Tahoe City Council discussed a proposal to change the city seal, which has remained unchanged since 1966.
Council member Scott Robbins suggested altering the seal’s design, specifically the dotted line through the middle of Lake Tahoe. He proposed moving the line diagonally to better align with the actual state boundaries.
The suggestion sparked an emotional response from South Lake Tahoe City Clerk Susan Blankenship, who emphasized the importance of preserving the original seal.
“The city seal has stood as a link between our past and present. It has marked every chapter of our city’s history and remains a powerful emblem of who we are,” Blankenship said.
The proposal was approved in a 3-0 vote and will be revisited for final approval in November.
