Triumph over Vandalism: Servicewomen's Sacrifice Honoured
Tasmanian servicewomen have been recognised with the dedication of a new memorial chair to replace a vandalised memorial at the Launceston Cenotaph Precinct.
"It's a tangible thing, so people can come and sit to reflect and remember what these service women did and still do for us,"
said Launceston RSL Sub-Branch Women's Auxiliary president Dianne Brzeski. The volunteer committee wanted to honour both past and present defence women for their service with something tangible.
- 20 per cent of the defence force are women, who are often overlooked for the vital roles they played.
- Women from Tasmania have contributed courage, skill, and resilience to the nation's defence, from the world wars to present-day peacekeeping missions.
"Their stories of sacrifice, determination, and camaraderie are woven into the fabric of Australia's history."
