19-year-old Father Sentenced for Strangling and Injuring Baby Daughter
Jacob Kats, a 19-year-old man from Marshall County, has been sentenced for strangling and severely injuring his 4-month-old daughter.
In March 2023, Kats was arrested after his daughter was taken to the hospital with several fractures and suspicious injuries. Investigators later determined that the injuries were purposefully inflicted by Kats, who was 17 at the time.
Kats pleaded guilty to aggravated battery and received a 15-year sentence, with 13 years to be spent in prison and 2 years on probation. He was initially charged with attempted murder and neglect resulting in serious bodily injury, but these charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
