Guillaume Junior Atangana: From Refugee to World Champion

Guillaume Junior Atangana made history by becoming the first refugee athlete to win a world title at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi.

Competing in the men’s 400m T11 final, Atangana, guided by fellow refugee athlete Donard Ndim Nyamjua, secured a landmark win with a season-best time of 51.95 seconds.

His victory symbolises resilience, determination, and the power of sport.

Atangana's participation was made possible through an International Paralympic Committee (IPC) competition grant for refugee athletes.
