Utah GOP Launches Efforts to Overturn Voter-Approved Prop 4

The Utah Republican Party has launched efforts to undo a voter-approved initiative and a recently approved set of congressional maps.

In Salt Lake City, Utah GOP Chair Rob Axson filed a citizen initiative to repeal Proposition 4, which created an independent redistricting commission. A referendum was also filed to overturn the new congressional map passed by lawmakers in a special session.

Utah voters “did not understand what they were signing up for” when approving Proposition 4

Proposition 4, which passed with 50.34% of the vote, established a seven-member independent commission to draw and recommend congressional and legislative maps for the Utah Legislature’s approval.

The measure was narrowly approved, with just over 512,000 votes in favor and 505,000 against.
