Army Plans to Install Nuclear Reactors on Bases

The Army has announced plans to install small commercial nuclear reactors on nine U.S. bases by 2028, as part of an effort called Project Janus.

"This is about the transition from prototypes to fully commercial nuclear power to provide energy resilience with our soldiers,"

According to Jeff Waksman, principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment, this project aims to provide energy resilience for soldiers. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll stated that nuclear power is part of the military's exploration of more sustainable energy sources for large-scale conflicts.
