The proportion of care workers in England with a basic qualification has reached a new low, following the government's cuts to planned training funding.
According to the annual stocktake of the workforce, the share of care and support workers with a level 2 qualification (equivalent to a good GCSE) in 2024-25 fell to 38%, down from 41% in 2023-24.
This decline coincides with a £115m cut to planned spending on sector training in 2024-25, which was made by the Labour government last July.
The fall in qualified care workers is a concerning trend.
