Economist Points to Hiring Freeze Across US, Praises Utah's Economic Stability

A leading US economist shared his insights on the economy, noting a hiring freeze across the country due to uncertainty over tariffs, immigration, and technology.

Dr. Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody Analytics, testified that the nation's economy is facing struggles, but the country has persevered. He cited factors such as tariffs, immigration policy, and the government shutdown as creating a sense of uncertainty, resulting in a freeze in the job market and little to no job creation.

Behind that is there is a lack of hiring.

Zandi praised Utah's strong social and economic cohesion, suggesting it could help the state weather the slowdown. He shared his insights at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute in Salt Lake City.
