The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is closing the Umatilla River to chinook salmon fishing from October 18 to November 30, due to low numbers of returning fish and increasing harvest rates.
The closure affects the section of the river from the Highway 730 bridge upriver to Threemile Dam, and is intended to ensure enough fish are collected for breeding and to support the long-term sustainability of the chinook fishery.
ODFW is trying to ensure it collects enough fish at Threemile Dam for breeding and to support the long-term sustainability of the chinook fishery in the Umatilla.
