Accidental Shooting During Hunting Trip in Northern Maine

A 31-year-old woman from Brewer, Amber Oaks, is recovering after being accidentally shot during a bird hunting trip.

According to the Maine Warden Service, Oaks was hunting with a party of six in the town of Hamlin when the incident occurred. She was being driven on an ATV by 31-year-old Danielle Fernald of Freeport, who allegedly reached for a loaded shotgun and accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting Oaks in the knee.

Oaks was taken to a hospital in Caribou, where she is undergoing surgery to clean the wound. Fernald has been charged with shooting from a motor vehicle, which includes having a loaded firearm in a vehicle.
