Ticketmaster has announced plans to combat ticket scalping, including account bans and shutting down TradeDesk, amidst a lawsuit from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
The company aims to get more tickets into the hands of real fans by banning multiple accounts, requiring tax ID verification for resellers, and closing its TradeDesk resale tool.
The FTC sued Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation, accusing them of allowing scalpers to buy large amounts of tickets and resell them at high prices, profiting from fees on initial and resale sales.
In response to the lawsuit, Live Nation's Executive Vice President Daniel Wall stated that it "presents a distorted view of the facts and the law."
