Recently, I visited Albany, New York, for a brief weekend trip. I wandered through the city without a plan, taking in the sights. My stroll along State Street, Albany's original "Main Street" and one of its oldest streets, led me to the Empire State Plaza.
The plaza is home to multiple government buildings, including the New York State Capitol, where the state legislature meets. The Capitol building was completed in 1899 at a cost of $25 million, approximately $794 million in today's currency, making it the most expensive government building of its time.
