The Caribbean sea lanes have long been used for both tourism and drug trafficking. However, a change in US policy may finally address the issue of drugs and violence in the region.
In The Bahamas, a new US ambassador is set to be appointed, with nominee Herschel Walker promising to bring his business experience to the role.
"I know how to run a business, how to create jobs, how to make payroll. Those lessons translate into building relationships and building trust,"
said Walker, speaking before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last week.
Walker's background in entrepreneurship and small business leadership is expected to inform his approach to diplomacy.
