The Caribbean sea lanes have long been used for both tourism and illegal activities. However, a change in US policy may finally disrupt the flow of drugs and violence in the region.
US Policy Change
In The Bahamas, a significant development took place on September 16, 2025. The US is set to send an ambassador to the country for the first time since 2011. The nominee, Herschel Walker, a former football star and entrepreneur, aims to bring his business experience to the diplomatic role.
"I know how to run a business, how to create jobs, how to make payroll. Those lessons translate into building relationships and building trust,"
Walker stated before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, highlighting his background in food-service companies and small business leadership.
