President Abbas Issues Constitutional Declaration
President Mahmoud Abbas issued a constitutional declaration stipulating that in the event of a vacancy in the office of the President of the Palestinian Authority, the Vice President of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) will temporarily assume the duties of the President.
The Vice President will hold the position for a period not exceeding 90 days, during which free and direct elections will be held to elect a new president, in accordance with Palestinian Election Law.
