Thousands of international students' scholarship contracts to be tightened after ELTE scandal

ELTE Scandal: Tightening Scholarship Contracts for International Students

Thousands of international students in Hungary may face tightened scholarship contracts following a scandal at ELTE University.

A recent incident involving historian Alexander Yakobson from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem led to the suspension of his lecture on October 16. Security forces failed to restore order, prompting two ministers and the university rector to demand accountability.

The historian’s lecture series, titled “Diverzitás és demokrácia az izraeli társadalomban”, is still available on ELTE’s website.

The disruption occurred when students wearing keffiyehs shouted that the lecture was political propaganda supporting Israeli genocide, forcing the lecture to be halted.

Author's summary: ELTE scandal affects international students' scholarships.
