Amazon to Invest $6.5 Billion in South Korea AI Data Centres
Amazon will invest over $6.5 billion to build artificial intelligence data centres in South Korea by 2031.
This investment marks the largest direct foreign investment in South Korea, surpassing the previous record set by Amazon in June with a $4 billion pledge for an AI data centre in Ulsan.
Seoul announced the investment on Oct 29, calling it the country’s largest-ever foreign investment.
- The commitment was made by Matt Garman, head of Amazon Web Services, during a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.
- The meeting took place in Gyeongju on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
