A reader from Fairbanks, Chris Greenfield-Pastro, discovered a unique phenomenon in the boreal forest, which she called "hair ice".

She sent in photos of delicate white lashes of ice curving from woody debris and fungus on the forest floor.

Greenfield-Pastro performed research on the phenomenon after discovering it behind her house.
