A team of Japanese researchers, led by Tatsuya Kotani and Professor Tomoharu Oka from Keio University, has confirmed that the Universe was hotter in the past.
They measured the temperature of the cosmic microwave background radiation, which is the faint afterglow of the Big Bang, by analyzing light that has traveled for 7 billion years.
The research revealed that the Universe's temperature was 5.13 degrees above absolute zero, roughly double today's temperature of 2.72 degrees.
The Universe was twice as hot 7 billion years ago.
Author's summary: Universe was hotter 7 billion years ago.
