Mamdani Wins NYC Mayoral Race
Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani has officially won the New York City mayoral race, defeating Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa.
The race was highly contentious, with Mamdani running against Cuomo, an independent, and Sliwa, the Republican nominee, as well as two other candidates.
"The last stop is City Hall,"
a voice says in an 11-minute video clip posted by Mamdani on X, showing the inside of a subway train, as he appeared to celebrate his victory.
The Associated Press called the race about 30 minutes after polls closed at 9 p.m, with the NYC Board of Elections announcing over 2 million people voted, the highest turnout since 1969.
