Federal Food Stamp Funding and Nassau County

Two federal judges ruled that the Trump administration must continue to fund SNAP, the nation's largest food aid program, during the government shutdown.

The rulings came just before the U.S. Department of Agriculture was set to freeze payments to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as food stamps.

The Trump administration stated it would cover half of the typical federal assistance for 42 million Americans, including 31,545 Nassau County households, or 43,404 individuals.

The administration would cover half of what the 42 million Americans typically receive in federal assistance to purchase groceries.

This decision affects approximately one in eight members of the population, as of July.
