Stratford Legion Preparing for Remembrance Day
The Stratford branch of the Royal Canadian Legion is organizing the Remembrance Day ceremony to honour those who served and sacrificed for Canada. The event will take place Tuesday morning at the Stratford Cenotaph.
Ceremony Details
- Wreath-laying at the memorial begins at 10 a.m.
- Formal ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m.
- Veterans, cadets, first responders, and dignitaries will march from the Stratford Armoury to the Cenotaph, led by the Stratford Police Pipes and Drums.
Program Highlights
- The Central Perth Elementary School Choir will perform "To Our Canadian Troops."
- Pastor Kelli Berkner from Knox Presbyterian Church will offer a scripture reading.
- Rector Robert Lemon of St. James Anglican Church will deliver the Call to Remembrance.
- Stratford Legion Chaplain Hayden Fischer will read the Honour Roll.
- Loreena McKennitt, honorary colonel with the Royal Canadian Air Force, will perform both O Canada and God Save the King.
- Comrade Richard Boon will serve as master of ceremonies, announcing the laying of wreaths.
“The Remembrance Day service at the cenotaph is our privilege and an opportunity to honour the men and women who served Canada and their sovereign so that we may have the freedom of today,” said Frank Mathieson, president of the Stratford legion branch.
