On November 11, Remembrance Day ceremonies will take place throughout the North Okanagan, including events in Vernon.
The Vernon event will be held indoors once again at Kal Tire Place South, organized by the City of Vernon and the Royal Canadian Legion. The program begins with a musical prelude at 9:50 a.m., followed by a parade of veterans, colours, and the flag at 10:25 a.m.
A minute of silence will be observed at 11 a.m. to honor those who never returned home.
The ceremony will also include a reading of Flanders Field, a prayer, and other formalities, concluding with the laying of wreaths. Attendance is free, and poppies will be available by donation.
An outdoor service starts at 10:30 a.m. at the Vernon Cenotaph, organized by Vernon Elks Lodge #45 alongside the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans #5.
After the ceremony, food and refreshments will be served at both venues.
Remembrance Day in Vernon offers both indoor and outdoor ceremonies to honor veterans, with moments of reflection, traditional readings, and community gatherings.
