Netflix announced a new animated spinoff of Stranger Things, titled Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, set to premiere on the platform in 2026. The series invites fans back to Hawkins, Indiana, for a new supernatural adventure.
“Welcome back to Hawkins in the stark winter of 1985, where the original characters must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town,”
– Netflix teased in the official announcement.
The project is helmed by Eric Robles, who serves as showrunner and executive producer through Flying Bark Productions. The Duffer brothers, Matt and Ross, creators of Stranger Things, also return as executive producers alongside Hilary Leavitt (Upside Down Pictures), Shawn Levy (21 Laps), and Dan Cohen.
According to Eric Robles, the animated show captures the familiar magic of Hawkins while exploring a fresh visual style inspired by 1980s cartoons. The narrative takes place between the events of seasons 2 and 3 of the original series.
“The idea was kind of to evoke a feeling of an ’80s cartoon,”
– said Matt Duffer, emphasizing the nostalgic direction of the project.
“What we’ve been able to capture is the magic of Hawkins in a new way,”
– added Robles, highlighting the creative vision behind the show.
The announcement coincided with Stranger Things Day, celebrated annually by fans on November 6 to mark the date when Will Byers disappeared in Hawkins, Indiana, back in 1983.
Author’s Summary: Netflix’s upcoming animated series Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 revisits Hawkins in a nostalgic 1980s style, uniting beloved characters and new threats under the creative team led by Eric Robles and the Duffer brothers.
